Some experts have figured out how to use LinkedIn differently than their colleagues allowing them to open more doors for themselves, expand their business in existing accounts and enhance their professional presence. According to these two individuals, LinkedIn does really work.

  1. Robbie Johnson: Won a $500,000 contract with LinkedIn’s help. He was able to land a contract with a company they never should have gotten by using LinkedIn to connect with, and contact executives who are nearly impossible to reach. When Johnson realized that the people in the company he was hoping to do business with went to local Project Management Office groups, he decided to go. Once getting a list of attendees was able to look all of them up on LinkedIn to find out their backgrounds. As he continued to attend these meetings, he struck up relevant conversation with all of the people he researched, and then would ask to be introduced to other people within the company. Eventually one of these new contacts reached out regarding an upcoming project and wanted his company to help, which resulted in a $500,000 deal.
  2. Thomas von Ahn: Generates 58% of his revenue via LinkedIn. He joins groups that are filled with active discussions and minimum spam. He then uses these forums to provide content that provides prospective customers with free advice and well as posts free eBooks and white pages. By being genuine, personal and candid on LinkedIn, people get to know and trust him, making sales easy.
